HAVE YOU SEEN US IN THE NEWS?

Since launching our new brand and crowdfunding campaign a couple of weeks ago, Cool Cold Brew has been featured by QUITE a few news outlets!

Our Crowdcube campaign first got picked up by BDaily where unfortunately, our older, no longer available cold brew was used as the image in the article….

(Hey, these things happen! But thankfully, BDaily did change the image once we requested)

It wasn’t long until BQ Live.. shared our story too and it went out on their daily newsletters to 1000s of subscribers, which we were most happy about.

Things picked up even faster and drinks industry specialist, Drinkpreneuer published our news, followed by our story going into print in the Greater Manchester Business Week paper.

My ‘old local rag’ picked up the news too, with the catchy headline ‘Urmston Entrepreneur on a Mission’..I’m sure it isn’t my first or last mission.

The paper of the city, the Manchester Evening News, commonly known as the M E N then published ‘Coffee Entrepreneur Launches Crowdfunding for Cold Brew Product’...catchy. I was also referred to as ‘the brains behind the brand’ - interesting. The article did get 142 shares which I’m best pleased about.

And to top it all off…..

Leading FMCG Industry publication The Grocer, which is read by 1000s of industry professionals, shared how we smashed our £100k crowdfunding target with: ‘Cool Cold Brew coffee startup targets retailers after smashing £100k crowdfunding target’!

So WHAT a month August was. Our new brand launch and crowdfunding campaign has generated some unbelieveable coverage. We cannot to launch our new cold brews, gain those listings with key retailers and generate even more good news!

WHY WE'RE CROWDFUNDING

On Friday 28th July at 11:30am and after a month’s worth of preparation and build up we launched an equity based crowdfunding campaign on the world’s leading crowdfunding platform, Crowdcube.

In just six years Crowdcube have worked with many brands such as BrewDog, Camden Town Brewery and Pip & Nut raising over £332m from an investor community of over 420,000 people. What an achievement!

But, why did we decide to crowdfund too?

Over the last 12 months, we’ve been measuring up the marketplace with our earlier Original flavour selling it online via our website but also into independent venues across Manchester such as coffee shops, cafes, delis and more!

Original Cool Cold Brew

During this time we learnt a lot about what people want and don’t from cold brew coffees and more widely chilled coffee drinks! The market is currently saturated with coffees full of sugar, saturates (no pun intended), many unnatural ingredients and poor quality coffee or ‘coffee flavourings’.

In 2017 where substandard coffee is no longer acceptable and we’re all yearning for more natural, unadulterated, healthier and less sugar food and drinks products, we asked ourselves,

‘Why has the chilled coffee market not yet modernised?’

And to be honest, we still don’t know the complete answer.

So we went to the drawing board and looked at how we could create something to change this market for the better. We worked hard to find a way to not add sugar to our drinks by focusing on unleashing the naturally sweeter flavour from cold brew coffee.

We also worked hard to make our drinks even healthier by reducing calories and fat content with more simple and clean ingredients and for example by using British farmed semi-skimmed milk in our Milk and Chocolate flavours.

To top it all off we knew we needed to create a brand and packaging design that people would love so we worked with a top-rate branding and design agency and gained feedback from our customers throughout the lengthy project.

But we then needed funds to bring the new range to market and having spoken to a number of investors over previous weeks and months, we admittedly struggled to get some of them over the line and to believe this was a big opportunity and we have even bigger potential.

So we knew we had to prove somehow that we had the right range for the right market, the right brand for the right customer and people would be willing to back us.

So to prove our concept we couldn’t think of a better way than getting those whom we know and don’t know to back us.

So, we decided crowdfunding was the way!

We wanted to give our community of supporters, friends, family, customers, suppliers and even buyers to become part of our growth. We also wanted to reach out and find other people who believed in us too.

We also knew that by taking our brand onto Crowdcube and hopefully raising the funds we needed to, we would also be able to effectively launch the new Cool Cold Brew brand on a national scale because of the added PR, marketing and success story benefit of being on a platform such as Crowdcube.

So with 420 investors currently on board and now £165,000 raised, we believe we’ve got things right.

With just 3 days left on our campaign, now is your chance to join us! Invest in Cool Cold Brew from just £10 and become part of our growth as we become the ‘go-to’ cold brew coffee brand in the UK and Europe.

P.S. Once our crowdfunding campaign closes I will be putting together a 3 part series of our campaign (Pre, Live and Post) sharing the insights, ups and downs, successes and tribulations we had throughout. I know Kris from Rejuvenation Water and others have done similar things previously, but I also believe each and every crowdfunding campaign is different so I want to share my experience too.

I’m also planning to do a talk in Manchester later in the year about crowdfunding and whether it is the right choice for you and your brand. Subscribe today to be in the loop!

WOW!! WHAT AN AMAZING WEEK IT HAS BEEN!

Reading Time: 3mins

Having arrived back in the UK last Saturday (22nd July) from a week away in Spain, it was straight back into things as we prepared for our new brand launch which we’ve been slowly teasing out followed by a yet to be made public crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube.

This was coupled together with Cool Cold Brew’s most recent intern, Dylan, leaving us after 3 months to head back to France and moving offices! Crazy, crazy times.

Having made the decision to go down the crowdfunding route well over a month ago, ever since we’ve been working extremely hard on preparing for the campaign itself from scripting, directing, producing and putting together the campaign video, pitch text, imagery and of course the dreaded and thorough Due Diligence we have to go through with Crowdcube in order to get onto the platform.

Throughout last week we worked to the bone, I had many restless nights and with a disaster occurring on Thursday evening where I had earlier in the week accidently deleted our Investor Pack which includes our Investment Deck and Financial Forecasts, I made the brave move of staying up and working all through the night on Thursday without one wink of sleep.

I got into the office on Friday morning and genuinely thought I was not going to make it through the day. I was cold, I felt dizzy, distracted and just wanted to sleep but with the campaign going live at 11:30am I had to carry on.

By 10:30am, miraculously from somewhere I had built up this unexpected energy. This was most definitely a combination of adrenaline and nerves in anticipation of the campaign that was going ahead in just 1 hour.

Although I always believed Cool Cold Brew had a good chance of successfully raising investment via Crowdcube, I had two statistics in my head that I’ve been working towards since we started this process. 9 out of 10 campaigns successfully fund if…

43% of the target raise is reached within 7 days

and
63% of the target raise is reached within 14 days.

So at 11:30am on Friday morning we went live on the platform and within 10 hours, so at 9:30pm, we had reached 61% of our funding target and had over 60 investors on board.

This was feeling was immense and I’m so humbled and overwhelmed at the support the campaign has received from investors, partners, the press, friends and family alike.

At the time of writing, we’re now at £81,700 (over 80% of our target) with 110 investors on board.

But we want to get to our target as quickly as possible and want more people to build involved in the growth of our business as:

Cool Cold Brew becomes the ‘go-to’ cold brew coffee brand in the UK and Europe.

I WISH, I WISH I COULD SHARE MUCH MORE WITH YOU!

Many months ago when Odelle, our Head of Marketing at Cool Cold Brew had just joined us, he said to me, ‘It would be a great idea if you put together your thoughts in a weekly Founder’s Journal and published it to our blog and through our social channels’.

I agreed. But like many things in life, life got in the way.

More recently, we’ve been capturing footage from my day-to-day and putting it together in weekly ‘Vlogs’ (Yes, Video Blogs for those of you who didn’t know).

I’ve been enjoying it. It isn’t easy to ‘add value’ for the audience sometimes but it has definitely had an impact on Cool Cold Brew so far and I can see how we can grow ‘JV’ going forward.

Creating a Vlog has made me want to go further and do some old school reflection and write about each week (and make time to do that), so here it is - my first Founder’s Journal.

FOUNDER'S JOURNAL: VOLUME 1

I’ve been suffering with a f**cking terrible cold since I returned back from Glastonbury Festival at the beginning of last week so decided to spend the weekend in the Lake District for some fresh country air. Feeling ever so slightly better I arrived back in Manchester late Sunday evening ready for the week ahead!

I started the week, well waiting. Having met with and pitched to quite a lot of investors recently, many have demonstrated explicit interest and intent to invest in Cool Cold Brew pending further information and a final decision. Whilst my head was in ‘waiting mode’, I still had to get on with key tasks for some major project work we’re doing at the moment (more to come later).

I spent Tuesday morning working on new brand collateral before heading over to view some new offices for Cool Cold Brew. For the last 18 months, we’ve had the pleasure of being based within offices hosted by Entrepreneurial Spark and at the end of July we will come to an end of our time on the programme, so we’re moving on.

Whilst touring around the offices I received a message from one of our prospective investors saying that although they are really keen about the business, just now isn’t the right time for them. These setbacks, although challenging to deal with, are just part of running a business and we have to carry on with plans ahead.

So on Tuesday afternoon I decided to get out-of-the-office and work from home in order to get away from any distractions. I spent some time thinking about where Cool Cold Brew is currently at and what we need to do to drive it forward. Faster.

So I made a BIG decision, which I knew was going to make the next 6 weeks the most busiest and crazy time ever (more to be revealed later also). I quickly decided that with the sheer amount of work required to achieve this I needed to be distraction free on Wednesday also, so again, worked from home and with the good old’ paper and pen, written all my thoughts out and ‘master planned’ the weeks ahead.

Thursday I got back into the office with vigor and began to brief the small team and other external partners we have at Cool Cold Brew. It’s so important with any business or project for that matter - when a challenge faces you, you need to get the entire team on board and aligned to the vision and mission ahead and so Thursday was all about this.

Cycling around Manchester on Saturday morning.

Cycling around Manchester on Saturday morning.

Friday, we began smashing through some of the various tasks we need to complete in order to meet a big deadline in just 10 days from now.

Other than going for a cycle on Manchester's new Mobikes on Saturday morning, I've spent the entire weekend working away on taking Cool Cold Brew to the next level.

I wish, I wish I could share much much more with you. But for now, I ask for your patience and I ask for your support. Keep your eyes peeled and ears to the ground..we’ve got some BIG announcements coming very, very soon.

Thanks, as always.

COLD BREW COFFEE. HOW DO YOU ENJOY YOURS?

Reading Time: 1min

Cold Brew with Milk

We think cold brew coffee is the best thing since sliced bread (or should that be hot coffee?).

A smoother, sweeter tasting coffee brewed cold over 17 hours, it has none of the bitterness of hot coffee and none of the nasties found in other convenience or 'energy' drinks. If you haven't tried it yet, we reckon you should definitely give it a go!

We think it tastes great straight from the bottle and it really is the most convenient coffee you can get. More instant than even 'instant' coffee, you don't even need to boil the kettle. But if, like us, you love coffee and are always on the lookout for new ways to enjoy your daily fix try some of  these ideas.

Add Milk

Cold Brew with Added Milk

Soy milk, almond milk, or plain old cow's milk. Just like hot coffee, Cool Cold Brew tastes great with a splash of the white stuff.

Add Flavour

Cold Brew Tonic

Throw in a vanilla pod, a slice of lemon or lime, or even some cacoa powder, to mix it up a bit.

Hot Stuff

Cool Cold Brew tastes amazing served cool, just as it's meant to be. That said, on a chilly morning (we know, believe us, we get plenty of them in Manchester) nothing beats a hot cup of the black stuff. Heat up your cold brew for an altogether smoother, fresher cup of steaming coffee.

If these ideas sound like your cup of tea (or coffee!) then stay tuned for lots more Cool recipe ideas.

PRESIDENTIAL COFFEE 'OFF

Reading Time: 1 minute 30 seconds

So with Mr Trump (no pun intended) being inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States on Friday, we thought it’d be a good idea to find out which types of coffee have helped his predecessors power their way through time in the ‘highest office in the land’.

As we expected, President Obama likes to keep up with the times. Although we don’t think any of the US President’s have actually made their own coffees whilst in office, Obama is believed to have enjoyed a pourover from a Chemex! We always knew Obama was cool.

George W Bush was also a coffee fan and used to make it every morning for himself and his wife before becoming President. But, after leaving office he had forgotten how to make coffee because his staff had been making it for him for so many years. What? That’s like forgetting how to ride a bike. Here he is enjoying a Dunkin Donut’s coffee!

George Bush Coffee

Bill Clinton has had his ups and downs with coffee too. The bad - one of the gifts from Monica Lewinsky (you know the secretary he had an affair with) was a coffee cup. But, he recently toured the Haiti Coffee Academy with the founder of La Colombe who do some really cool work in the cold brew scene.

George H W Bush, was a MASSIVE coffee fan, drinking about 10 cups a day! He did have a health scare and had to drink decaf for a while but he was soon back to drinking a good old cup of joe in no time.

And FINALLY Donald J Trump. Well, despite owning and selling his own range of  pods and having a coffee roasted and named after him, Trump doesn’t actually drink coffee, or tea or alcohol for that matter. Now doesn’t that say a lot about a person?

THE FUTURE OF COFFEE! WHAT IS COLD BREW COFFEE?

Reading Time: 1min 30secs

Cold Brew Coffee - The Future

We love coffee, hot, cold, strong, black, even flavoured, but we love cold brew coffee even more, especially Cool Cold Brew. We truly believe that cold brew coffee is where it's at and we think you will too, once you've tried it.

So whether you follow all the coffee trends, or you usually stick to what you know, we want to let you know exactly why we think Cool Cold Brew is the best.

First up we've chosen a small blend of medium roasted beans specifically chosen for their sweeter flavours. We grind them and brew the grounds with filtered water for over 16 hours.

We then extract the liquid and perfectly filter the waste grounds from it creating a non-acidic, super smooth, sweet and refreshing cold brew.

Secondly, its truly 'instant coffee', pick it up and drink it as it is. It's as simple as that.

Next up, let's talk about the health benefits. Coffee is great for an instant energy boost, we all know that, but did you know that unlike other 'energy' drinks out there Cool Cold Brew is 100% natural, sugar free and contains only 10 calories - yes 10! Coffee is known to increase your metabolism helping weight loss and has also been linked to reducing the likelihood of diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's

So if that hasn't convinced you to give it a go we don't know what will! Actually, how about we give you a bottle to try, on the house? Just leave us a comment with your name, email address and why you'd like to try it below and we'll pick a couple of winners by Monday 31st October.

Be a winner. Good luck!
